What Is a Universal Product Code (UPC)?

We all use UPC Bar Codes whenever we buy a product from a store.

These Bar Codes replaced the old paper price tags placed on products.

There are International UPC Bar Codes and also Local Bar Codes (shorter than UPC's).

Although this seems like a great technological fix to a point-of-purchase problem, there are growing concerns that there is an underlying problem with UPC's.

The same technology that places UPC marks on products may soon be used to micro-chip humans.

Could this be "The Mark of the Beast" mentioned in Revelation of the Bible?

The Burroughs Corporations was contacted in the early 1970's by global business interests to solve a problem.

Products prior to the mid-1970's were labeled with a paper price tag to tell customers how much the item cost. If prices changed, the price tags had to be replaced. This was costly.

The Burroughs Corporation invented the Universal Price Coding System (UPC's). A unique digital image was given to each item. When the price of an item changed, the store could simply change the price using a computer rather than changing hundreds of paper price tags.

The product's price mark had to be read correctly when it was scanned at the price register. The number 6 was used to designate the first, middle, and last numbers within the price tag numbering sequence. This system is used only on international UPC marks. The number six is noted with two thin lines. Local UPC codes are shorter than international codes.

The Burroughs Corporation built a huge super-computer in Brussels, Belgium in 1976 to keep track of all international price codes. The building and the computer within were affectionately called, "The Beast" because of its immense size.

Business Micro Chip Identification - Mark Of The Beast 666?

Another research project started soon afterwards in Denmark with the experimentation of implanting micro-chips into people's hands to identify them for financial transactions. This became known as SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications). The medical and law enforcement agencies soon jumped onboard and asked to have medical and criminal information stored on the chips. This resulted in the proposal to place micro-chips in both the hand and head of each person. This would allow confirmation and security in case one of the chips was damaged in an accident.

These projects want to implant micro-chips into every human for identification purposes. No one will be able to buy or sell without the mark or chip of "The Beast".

Logic would have us believe that this will solve many of our problems, but there is another counsel which argues otherwise.

Revelation 13
16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. 18 This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.

Revelation 14
9 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: "If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, 10 they, too, will drink the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name."

These words were written two thousand years ago.
