Date: August 20, 2009
Hello Russ Howell,
The question I have is:
Do you have any video or Documentation regarding the 163 World record 360 spins.
I respect the 97 360 spins, but I am interested in your World Record.
Thank you,
P.S. You have contributed very much to the world of Skateboarding and Showed Class and respect for the sport, this made it easier for the riders now to achieve their goals.

Thanks for inquiring about the record for 360 spins. My personal best was 163 which was done at a CASL Contest back in the late 70's. I was helping with the contest and did a spinning demonstration. The conditions were perfect. It was early morning which made the concrete hard. The area had just been cleaned and mopped which provided great grip. I was at the top of my spinning game. During my demonstration, I had five attempts and each spin was over 140. The CASL judges along with the crowd counted. I remember Lynn Cooper and Wallace Sueyoshi being there. My final spin was 163.
Although there was no film taken of the demonstration, the record was set at a sanctioned contest with the normal rules of a spinning competition. I was fortunate enough to be in a place and time where all the elements aligned correctly for a spin of that magnitude to take place.
I realize there are others who discount my record due to lack of film evidence, but I have no reason to make up such a story. Pride is not a distraction of the truth for me. I have nothing to gain from boasting falsely and I would welcome anyone who could beat what I have done. True strength is not shown by pushing others over, but by lifting others up. I have always felt that the setting of records was to offer others who came afterwards a stepping stone to greater heights.
Lynn Cooper is still involved in skateboarding. He manufactures products and also creates skate films. I'm sure you could Google him and ask him for any further information. The last known contact information I have for him is:
